Rules

  • This is a team contest for secondary school students. Each team shall consist of 2 to 3 students from the same school. Each school can send at most two 2-person teams.
  • Each school can nominate 1 official team and unlimited number of sub teams.
  • There will be 10 to 12 tasks, with no subtasks. Teams shall solve as most tasks as possible in 4 hours.
  • Members within a team may communicate with each other, but not with other teams.
  • Each team may only use 1 laptop. Teams must bring their own laptop. There will be no backup laptops.
  • Teams may bring and use unlimited amount of non-electronic reference books and notes.
  • Teams must not use any previously written code. Teams may only use basic document processing and software development software.
  • The allowed programming languages are C++17 and Python 3. Pascal and C are no longer allowed.
  • A verdict, either Accepted, Wrong Answer, Time Limit Exceeded, Runtime Error, or Compilation Error, will be given to each submission. Teams will not receive detailed results of each test.
  • Wrong Answer, Time Limit Exceeded, Runtime Error are regarded as Rejected.
  • The ranking will be made available to the teams, except during the last hour.
  • Each team may print not more than 10 pages of PDF documents.

Ranking and Awards

  • Teams are ordered by number of solved tasks, followed by the Penalty Time.
  • Calculation of Penalty Time
    • No Penalty Time for Unsolved tasks
    • The Penalty for a solved task is the number of minutes past the beginning of the contest that it is solved, plus the number of Rejected submissions multipled by 20 minutes.
    • The total penalty time is the sum of the Penalty Times of each task.
  • The 1st place official team will win the La Salle — Pui Ching Programming Challenge Cup.
  • The 1st - 4th place teams will win the Gold award.
  • The remaining official teams that solves a certain number of tasks (TBA) will win the Silver award.
  • The remaining official teams that solves a certain number of tasks (TBA) will win the Bronze award.
  • The sub teams that solves a certain number of tasks (TBA; same as Silver) will win the Distinction award.
  • The remaining sub teams that solves a certain number of tasks (TBA; same as Bronze) will win the Merit award.

Other Notes

  • All contestants must wear proper school uniform. Team uniform, PE uniform, house tee, class tee etc are also acceptable but it must be consistent within a team.
  • Tasks will only be available in English.
  • There will be tasks of various difficulty in no particular order.
  • Laptop requirements: 802.11a/b/g/n/ac to connect to the contest network. Charger cable of at least 2.5 meters.
  • Peripheral keyboard and mouse are allowed. External displays are not allowed.
  • Teachers may spectate inside the venue.
  • The organiser will arrange photo-taking and video recording for promotional purposes.
